Harendra Chakhaiyar completed his schooling from La Martiniere for Boys, Kolkata. Thereafter, he moved on for his graduate studies from the Presidency College, Kolkata and his post graduation from the Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management, Kolkata. Passionate about teaching he then moved on for his teacher training at The David Hare Training College in Kolkata. He is specialized in the field of environmental studies and has great passion for conserving the environment.
He has been teaching at the prestigious Doon School in Dehradun for over 10 years now. He has taught geography, biology and environmental science at the middle as well as senior school level. He has also taught the IB diploma programme (Environmental Systems and Societies) at the senior school level. He has been an assistant housemaster of Hyderabad house, Housemaster of the Foot House and Housemaster of TATA house. He has also been involved in a large number of activities including trekking, table tennis, school council and the like.
He has worked closely with the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations and has conducted a large number of training sessions with teachers. He has written a series of text books on environmental education called “Periwinkle Environmental Education”.
He has taken over as the first Principal of the G.D. Goenka International School at Surat in June, 2011 and his passion for improving academic excellence has started proving a unique direction to school education in Surat.
